5 Min Game Talk and Adjustments
  • Unlucky need to figure out how to adjust when covered
  • Try Bennett at Defense
  • Move Timmy to LSM
  • Every drill starts with a ground ball, kid must run full speed to get it.
10 Min Zip and Skip Drill

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=32zM45vGUjU

  • 5 cones positioned around the net, top near the box
  • Player should pop-out or pop towards the ball to mimic getting open
  • Move the ball around the net, catch on the outside, turn, switch hands and pass on the outside
  • Move your feet to get ready to receive the ball
  • Run to the line you pass to
  • Quicker we move the ball the tougher the defense can recover
  • Receive the pass, one or two craddles, then make accurate pass
  • Variation: Use a long pole as a limbo GB, coach places ball, player drops their ball

10 min
Half Naz Shooting Drill

Half Naz Shooting Drill

  • Create 3 lines of kids
  • 1 Line outside of the top of the box
  • 1 Line midway between goal and top of box
  • 1 Line behind the goal on the same side of the field as the other 2 lines
  • Balls should be at the top and side lines
  • Top line, passes to the behind the goal line, that player runs behind x and passes to the guy that fed him
  • Side Line, then passes to the attack coming around X and he quick stick shoots
  • Players rotate from bottom to top

10 Min Power and Finesse
  • Line up your players at the mid line
  • Put a bunch of balls next to the players
  • Put a few attack about 10 yards from GLE on one side
  • A player at the top, takes a high velocity shot from a distance of just inside the box line
  • He then runs and takes a feed from an attack player and takes a quick stick shot in front of the crease (Either quick stick or one cradle and shot)

5 Min Water
10 Min Fireball
  • Start with one goal and a goalie.
  • Divide the remaining players into two "teams".
  • Place the teams on opposite sides of the field about 30 yards apart at the restraining line. Use cones to identify where the players should stand.
  • Players should line the field from the mid line to X
  • Give each player on each team a number: 1, 2, 3, 4, etc.
  • Now you're ready to start your game. Call out some numbers: "1,4,5". You can use any combination of numbers to achieve 2v2, 3v3, 4v4, etc.
  • After calling out the numbers roll out a ball and blow the whistle.
  • To gain possession a team must win the ground ball and pass to one of the non active players on the sideline. This is the "ground ball" phase of the drill.
  • Now that you've established an offense (ground ball winner) and defense, the coach makes a pass to the offense. The offensive players must cut to get open. The defense must "mark up" in a man-to-man defense.
  • Now it's just a normal scrimmage. The possession ends with either: (1) a goal, (2) a goalie save, or (3) a defensive clear back to the coach.
  • Keep score to make it competitive for the two "teams".

10 Min Pass Back to 2v2

Getting the ball back to the weak-side or non-ball side is an important concept for offenses. This drill teaches drive and pass back, crease slide, Defensive Recovery to the inside, Ball movement to the weak-side.

  • Teach the concept of "Pass Back and Pop"
  • Start with 2 defense and 2 offense and a goalie
  • One offensive and defensive player are in the crease
  • One offensive player is at the top of the box and drives to the alley
  • When the player with the ball is 8 yards out, the crease defender should slide, and the covering defender should recover to the hole
  • The offensive player with the ball rolls back and looks for the offensive player on the crease to pop out
  • Variation: Put a weak-side attackman down and its a 3v2
  • Variation: Put a man at x and use the x man to get it to the weak-side

5 Min Water
30 Min Modified 5 on 5 full field
  • Have middie lines run together and 1 attack and 1 defense on the same team
  • Substitute 3 off by middie line, or 3 attack, or 3 defense to keep kids playing with who they are next to the field
  • Shots can only be made off one of the following actions:
    • Pick either on-ball or off-ball
    • Trigger
    • Successfully completing "swing it" around the goal
    • ISO on a short stick defender
    • Aggressive drive to the cage, drawing a double and passing
  • Turnover if you catch or throw without moving
