Time Drill
5 Min Active Stretching
8 Min Star Drill
8 Min Defensive Approaches
  • Approach: 1) Stick out (want the guy to dodge further away from you), 2) Athletic Stance (stance is so you can react quicker), 3) Dictate Dodger Direction (approach dictates where the guy goes, always have a plan when approaching)
  • Hips: Footwork training directed out of defensive position where you are forced to open up hips. When you do defensive footwork drills always be in a defensive posture
  • Patience: Understand where change of direction is occurring, Do not try to match feet, understand area of field you are trying to protect
  • Strike Zone: On Hips, Aggressive, Keep head up
  • Ball Pressure > Taking Ball Away (just pressure the stick, don't try to strip the ball)
  • Add 3 lines of cones away from the goal, approach and retreat on whistles
10 Min 2v2 Add Silent X

Goal of this drill is to teach players to constantly look for the "one more" player.

  • Have an offensive and defensive line at the top of the box
  • Defense drops in and run a 2v2 and two man game
  • Add a player at X, player runs onto the field silently
  • Turns into a 3 on 2
  • The offensive players with the ball must play with their head up looking for the open man
  • Key Concept: Is to look for the "One More" pass

5 Min Water
20 Min 4 Man Ground Ball into a 3v3

This drill was invented by Paul Myers. The goal of the drill is to reward the player who wins the ground ball with the opportunity to play offense. Defensively, this drill helps players drop back to the hole quickly and to find a man to cover.

  • Put a goalie in the net
  • Have 4 lines of guys at equal distance around the box (one line in each corner)
  • Have 2 additional lines of guys, one on each side of the box, in between the 4 guys fighting for the ball
  • The coach rolls the ball out, the 4 lines battle for the ground ball. The winner of the ground ball must break out, protecting the stick and the 3 guys that lose are now on defense
  • Upon possession, 1 guy from each of the middle lines runs out, and is on offense with the winner of the ground ball and the drill transitions into a 3v3
