Time Drill
5 Min Active Stretching
10 Min Buckeye Ground Ball
  • Drill teaches kids to scoop the ball on the run and make two quick passes (Ground Ball - Pass - Pass)
  • Teaches kids to get a proper angle as an adjacent for receiving a pass

Drill

  • Make 3 lines of kids with the outside lines being 10 yards apart
  • Put the balls in the middle with two goalies to the outside of the outside lines
  • Roll a ball out, have the middle guy scoop it up, pick a side to throw to, and then throw to the other guy
  • Last guy with the ball circles or question mark and then passes to a goalie and we repeat
  • Have some confusion in the middle and run continual
  • Variation: Add a chaser for the 2nd and 3rd pass

10 Min Draw & Dump

The goal of this drill is to have kids work in a double situation, and either dump to a cutter or curl back and hit an adjacent player.

  • 5 Kids in the drill, 3 offense and 2 defense, No Goalie needed
  • Have the defense lineup outside the box on one side
  • Have all the offense lineup at the top of the box on the right alley
  • Have offensive players P1, P2, and P3 get on the field with P1 having the ball at the top of the alley
  • P2 is behind the goal at X and P3 is 5 yards out on the left at GLE
  • D1 and D2 take the field, D1 covers P1, and D2 is in the hole
  • P1 looks to dodge his man, D2 slides, P2 and P3 both cut to give help
  • P3 is cutting to score, P1 is cutting as adjacent help
  • P1 draws the double and either passes to P3 for a goal or pops out to pass to P2
  • P2 goes around x and passes to P3 redirecting the ball to score

Defenders

Goal Hopping

  • On GLE setup 3 cones about 5 feet apart on each side of the goal
  • Have the kids lineup in the crease in front of the goal
  • Objective is for the kids to turn their hips but keep their shoulders square towards their man (who is behind the goal)
  • Kids will run, hop over the back of the goal, then then turn and come back to the original starting point, then turn and go to the other side of the crease.
  • When they reach the 3 cones, they should run sideways with their hips turned
  • Next guy goes when the first guy comes back to the original cone


Attack and Middies

Lift Check Train

  • Have all the form a single line with about 5 feet in between
  • The kids will have two hands on the stick in a pass/shoot hands position
  • First kid in line gets in the sideways stance and goes down the line lift checking
  • At 4-5 kids down the line, have the next kid go


Approach a man and turning hips cone drills

10 Min 5 Cone & Crease Defensive Position
  • Setup 6 Cones in a 2-3-1, 2-2-2 or other offensive sets, the crease cone can be a bucket to make it more visible
  • Teach kids the following terms
    • Ball - the guy covering the ball
    • Adjacent - the 2 guys adjacent yell "got you left", "got you right"
    • Far guys - the 2 guys two passes away from the guy with the ball move inside, head on a swivel
  • Kids Setup facing their cone
  • Coach points at a cone in sequence around the goal
  • Show kids the proper positioning and then run through it full speed
  • Kids need to adjust to cover their men while yelling what position number they are
  • Short Choppy Steps when approaching the offensive guy
