Sliding the Right Way

  • 3-Man - where the 1st and 2nd slide come from
  • Standard D - where the 1st and 2nd slide come from
  • Rules of Sliding - when you initiate a slide it needs to be done with the proper technique
    • Slide to where he's going, not to where he's been - anticipate the path of the driving attackman
    • Breakdown on arrival - be ready to play solid defense - knees bent, back straight, balls of feet
    • Stay in front of the Attacker - the on-ball defender is forcing the player down the side of the field, stay in front of the ball carrier
    • Slide man stays on the ball - Once a defender initiates a slide, he must go, and once there he is now responsible for that man, the original defender recovers to the crease
    • Original ball defender recovers to the crease to pickup open man - if the slide is effective in making the attacker peel away the original on ball defender should recover to the crease
    • Lead with the stick, follow with the body - After leading with the stick, you’ll follow through with your body lowering the shoulder to make contact.
