Lacrosse is one of the fastest growing sports in the United States and many countries around the world. We are starting to see rumors of expansion teams for the NLL, an explosion of Lacrosse programs on the west coast and many people moving from the North East down to southern states like North Carolina. This blog post is a guide to help aggregate some of the North Carolina lacrosse programs in the Raleigh Durham and great Research Triangle area.
North Carolina Lacrosse Programs
The Raleigh Durham area consists of the major cities and towns of Raleigh, Durham, Chapel Hill, Cary, Apex, Morrisville, Holly Springs and each of the cities and towns have Lacrosse programs nearby.
Lacrosse is popular in the triangle area there are many programs for both recreation and travel team players. It also has adult leagues for both outdoor and indoor lacrosse. Below are summaries of each of the areas travel programs (stay tuned for a post on the recreation and adult programs).
Travel Programs
These programs attract kids that have played recreation lacrosse for a number of seasons and who are ready to compete at the next level. The teams typically travel to North Carolina, South Carolina, Virginia, and Maryland for lacrosse tournaments in both the Fall and Summer seasons. Many North Carolina travel teams compete very well at the national level and the regions players are becoming recognized throughout the US as an area to recruit for College teams.
Red Devil United
The Red Devils are located in Apex NC, which is one of the towns that consistently makes it to the state High School playoffs. Apex is a diverse community with a very well run Town Council and recognizes that it’s Lacrosse teams are important for the growth of the town. Apex and Red Devil have a great location for those in the neighboring towns of Cary, Raleigh, Morrisville and any location that is near the lower 540 and Route 1 or 64.

Teams | Red Devil fills between 10 and 12 teams per season. They offer Lacrosse for both Girls and Boys.

What Makes Red Devil Great
- Red Devil United pulls many coaches from the nearby indoor lacrosse men’s league and each team consistently has up to 2-4 coaches.
- Many of the teams have 20-30 practices per season making the cost per practice very low.
- A family environment where everyone gets along and encourages competitive play while having fun
919 Lacrosse
919 Lacrosse has merged with Team 91 and no longer exists.

Team 91 Carolina Cannons
Team 91 Carolina Cannons is located in Chapel Hill NC. It is the longest running travel program in the area and was recently acquired by Team 91 from New York. Fall 2017 was their first season as Team 91 Carolina Cannons.

What Makes Team 91 Carolina Cannons Great
- Its too early to tell if the Carolina Cannons will continue to be one of the area’s powerhouse team after being acquired by Team 91
- Before the acquisition the Carolina Cannons were consistently one of the best team in the Raleigh area
Bucktown Lacrosse
Named after the founder Alex Buckley, they are located in Raleigh NC. Bucktown plays at Cardinal Gibbons High School and has between 8-12 teams every season.
