5 Min Weak Hand Line Drills
10 Min Attack the Offense Ground Ball

Focus is to pick up the ground ball, move it twice and either catch and shoot or attack on the back / weak side.

  • Need a goal and line up the kids at the top of the box
  • Have 3 kids run out and stand right in front of the crease
  • Coach gently rolls the ball out, kids scoop through call ball, help left, help right
  • Perform two passes and then shoot
  • Look to move the ball to a shot within 3 seconds
  • Accelerate through the ground ball
  • Next group of kids jogs out

10 Min Defensive Footwork
  • Main goal of defense is to shadow or contain and disrupt when passing or shooting
  • Approaching a defender forward
  • Cone approaches
5 Min Water
10 Min 1 on 1 from X and 1 on 1 from GLE
10 Min Crossfire Passing

A good drill to reinforce two passes and 2 man game

  • Create a square about 15 yards by 15 yards
  • Have 4 kids per team for a total of 8 players
  • For each team, put 2 guys on the outside and 2 guys in the inside
  • The outside guys are on opposite sides of the square and cannot go inside the square
  • The inside guys are free to roam in the middle area
  • Start with the ball on the outside, make a pass or two into the middle and then to the other side
  • If through the middle and out the other side, you gain one point
  • If the ball is loose in the middle players fight for the ball
  • If the ball rolls out, it starts with the team on the line where the ball goes out
  • Try to string together multiple points

5 Min Water
10 Min Crunch 3v2

This drill is used to shorten the field and have players play in a condensed field, helping kids move the ball more effectively with quicker passes. When players play on a larger field everything opens up.

  • Use Cones to section off the field from GLE to inside of the box
  • Have 3 lines of offense, and 2 lines of defense, and a goalie in the cage
  • Defenders stand out ready to play and we play 3 on 2
  • Offensive players must look for quick passes, if the ball goes outside the cones the next players go

5 Min Water
5 Min Creating Opportunities on Offense
  • Talk to the kids about the importance of creating opportunities
    • Draw a double a dump
    • Set an off ball or on ball pick
    • Ground ball - Pass Pass
    • Drive and dump to the weakside
    • Head up and triple threat position
    • Cut and Return or Cut and Fill
    • Trigger
25 Min 6 v 6, lose a player
  • Kids play half field, 6 v 6
  • Goal is to get kids to move the ball to the weakside quickly and cut and fill for each other
  • if no motion offense or hold the ball too long when doubled, then the offense loses a player
  • Keep score
10 Min John Hopkins 3v2 Challenge

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ivm2d55bOY8

Great competition drill that teaches soft hands on offense and quick ball movement.

  • Have the kids split up with dark vs light
  • Have each team run for 5 minutes in offense and defense and keep track of who wins
  • Setup 5 cones around the goal, the cones are in a star pattern with the top of the star at the top of the goal about 10 yards away
  • Have the defense on the back 2 cones behind the net
  • Have the offense on the top 3 cones
  • Place a goalie in the net and use tennis balls
  • Coach throws a ball to an offensive player and it turns into a 3v2
  • Defense has to adjust to the man and talk to stop the ball from going in the net

The losing team has to do extra pushups or sprints
