  • Divide players into six groups: two rows with three lines in each, facing each other
  • Start in the bottom left corner, throwing the ball to top left.
  • Players will catch, switch hands, and move the ball to the person in the middle, passing in the shape of a W

2:15 - 2:30 Clearing Stations
  • Split kids into these 3 groups: Attack, Middie, Defense
  • Defense Group with 1 goalie
    • Have 3 defense cluster in front of the goal
    • Goalie with the ball yells clear, 2 defense go to the side at GLE, 1 goes top right
    • Goalie passes to one at GLE, that D passes to the other GLE D, and then passes to the D near the mid line
    • Rotate all Defense in
  • Midfield Group with 1 goalie location at the midline
    • Two midfield stand about 10 yards apart passing to each other
    • Goalie yells clear and they pass to the goalie
    • Both middies banana cut out and goalie passes to one. The other Middie takes off down field, banana cutting to receive a pass from the first Middie
  • Attack Group
    • 3 Attack take the field
    • 2 attack stay near the midline and 1 attack is halfway to goal from the midline
    • Coach passes the ball to one of the top attack, the attack closest to goal runs to X
    • The other high attack takes off down the field looking for a pass. Takes the pass and either shoots or passes to the guy at X
    • X attack goes around goal and looks for attack that made the pass driving to goal
    • Original attack breaks to goal looking for a pass and goes to X, attack adjust to 2 GLE and 1 at x

2:30 - 2:35 Water
2:35 - 2:45 Unsettled Recover 6 on 6

Often times middies coming down the field to play defense get confused as to who to cover. This drill helps the defense recover from a fast break or unsettled offense.

  • Have 3 attack and 3 defense get into position
  • At the top of the box have 2 offensive middies and 1 defensive middy
  • At near the midline, have 1 offensive middie and 2 defensive middies
  • Ball starts at the box line, and starts as 5 on 4 then the others must recover and get their man
  • Make sure we cut with our offensive middies alot to make the defense stay with their man
  • Work on putting yourself in between man and goal, and running to the hole

2:45 - 3:00 3 on 3 - Rule of 3

This drill teaches the importance of attacking the ball and communicating with your team mates.

  • 6 players are used for the drill, 3 per team
  • The rule of 3 is one player goes for man, the other ball, the last hovers and circles called the shark
  • A coach rolls a ball out and the players call man, ball, and the 3rd person hovers/circles to try and get the ball if its kicked out.
  • The “man” player looks to box out the closet competitor
  • The “ball” player runs through the ball and tries to scoop it, if its not possible, the player looks to flip the ball out to the 3rd player hovering and circling.
  • The 3rd player (shark) runs in half circles or full circles around the scrum looking to get a ball kicked out to them.

3:00 - 3:05 Water
3:05 - 3:25 Stations - 2 Groups 10 minutes at each station

Proper Cutting Techniques

  • See back of the helmet cut behind man
  • Push into and off
  • Banana Cut
  • Adjacents help by cutting out
  • Coach will have two kids out and they will work on cutting

Question Mark Ground Ball

  • Have the kids form a line
  • Roll the ball out away from the line
  • Have the kids call ball and release
  • Upon scooping up the ball, the kids run in a question mark pattern to avoid the trailing stick
  • Coach should use the term "Run to Daylight"
  • Throw the ball back to coach and repeat
