Time Drill
5 Min Active Stretching
10 Min Fumble Ground Ball Drill

This drill is a 2v2 that works on ball/man teamwork on ground balls, and helps offensive players to circle back or get to green space to make a quick pass to his teammate.

  • Start with two lines of guys in two different colors
  • Coach gently rolls out a ball and a 2v2 battle for the ball
  • As a player gains possession of the ball he is immediately jumped and double teamed by the two opposite players
  • This forces the ball carrier to run out of pressure through circling back or running to green space
  • The player then looks to pass to his teammate

15 min 4 on 4 - Add One Drill
  • Have 1 line of defenders, 1 line of offense at the top of the box
  • Corner of the box add another offensive line
  • Drill starts with a 4 on 4, we practice camel and 3 man
  • Coach Yell's add one and the 5th offensive guy comes in, defense must adjust to a zone
5 Min Water
15 Min Clear 2 on 1 from behind the net

This drill mimics a clear from the side behind GLE. We will have 9 total players. This helps a kid understand where to pass on the clear and how to deal with a doubleteam on the ride.

  • Defender on both side corners, two attack riding, Goalie in net
  • Riding attack should cover the guy with the ball and the goalie
  • 2 clearing middies and 2 riding middies, middies cut, defender runs up the sideline and passes
  • If the riding team gets the ball they have 1 chance to score
10 Min Cabrini Hub Drill to 4V4

A great drill that is done in two phases. The first phase is used for defensive positioning and footwork, and offense swinging the ball around the goal. The second phase turns into a 4v4 with offensive players working on specific techniques.

  • Put a goalie in cage, add 4 cones around the goal in a diamond shape
  • Divide teams up with attack and some middies on one team, defense and some middies on the other. Spread these players around the field at the cones
  • Phase 1 of the Drill - Defensive Footwork
    • The offense looks to swing the ball around the goal, they must stay in their cone zone
    • As the ball is passed to the offensive guy, the defender sprints towards his man applies pressure. Defenders accelerate and arrive under control, using toe to heel transition. The defender can check the hands of the offensive guy, who is pretty much locked to his zone
    • When the ball is passed, that defender very quick moves or recovers back into the hole
    • Defensive Coaching: Approach, Break Down, Toe to Heel weight transfer, arrive with check, recover back to the hole
  • Phase 2 of the Drill - 4v4 with offensive techniques - Coach initiates phase 2 with a whistle blow
    • The offensive players begin in the diamond formation and we add techniques or little rules to the play
    • Offensive Coaching Must Begin: Invert Middies, Pass Down - Pick Down, Aggressive drive to the cage, Off Ball Pick, Isolate the short stick defender, Create picks to force short stick vs attack

5 Min Water
30 Min 5 on 5 full field
  • Have middie lines run together and 1 attack and 1 defense on the same team
  • Substitute 3 off by middie line, or 3 attack, or 3 defense to keep kids playing with who they are next to the field
