Back to Practice Plans

Tryouts are 1 hour and 15 min. We will have two stations for evaluations.

Time Drill
5 Min Jersey Colors
  • Put defense in dark with half middies
  • Put offense in light with half middies
  • Coaches talk about expectations of tryout
5 Min Active Stretching
5 Min Two Man Passing Down Field
  • Make sure kids are catching and throwing with the stick forward
  • Instruct kids that they need to do the drill properly
15 Min Basics Stations

Split group into 2024 and 2025, they spend 7 min at each station.

Station 1: Scooping, Cradling, Dodging

Station 2: Shooting Drill

5 Min Water
20 Min Team Play Stations

Split group into 2024 and 2025, they spend 10 min at each station.

Station 1: 2 v 2 Escalation

  • Form two lines, one near the midline, the other off to the side at GLE
  • Split kids offense and defense at each of the lines
  • Put a goalie in the cage
  • Goalie picks up a ball, passes to a defender, who then passes to the offensive guy
  • Players play 1 v 1, after the shot, goalie passes to the top line defender, and repeat with a 2 v 2
  • Kids rotate as both offense and defense

Station 2: 4 v 3 dragons

Dragon 4v3

A good before game warmup

  • Line the midfield at the top of the field in 3 lines
  • 3 Middies, 1 drops in to play defense
  • 2 Attack and 2 Def lines to the side of the goal
  • Goalie in Net
  • 15 seconds to score or drill over
