4 on 4 Escalation
The goal of this drill is to give kids the opportunity to try individual 1 on 1, 2 man game, and escalate up to a 4 on 4 situation
- Put a goalie in the cage
- 4 lines of defenders and offensive players were placed just outside the box (8 total lines)
- Attack and Defense are behind the goal, midfielders are divided into offense and defense
- To start the goalie passes a ball to the back left attack, that attack and defender go 1 on 1 and attempts to score
- After the play is over, the goalie passes the ball to the back right attack and the first attack and defender are in play with the new attack and defender
- After the play is over the goalie passes to the top left midfielder and its a 3 on 3
- After the play is over the goalie passes to the top right midfielder and its a 4 on 4
- When all four lines go the next group begins
- Note: you can either rotate players or keep them in the lines they are in
- Note: make sure you have midfielders play both offense and defense

West Genny
The classic 3 on 2 near full field drill
- Place two goals approx 50 to 70 yards apart
- Divide your team into two groups (equally distributing defenders)
- Put two goalies in the cages
- On each side of the field make 3 lines
- Place a large amount of balls in the crease around the goal and at each side of the midline
- One team starts with the ball, the goalie clears to one kid and 3 kids go down the field
- On the other side of the field 2 defenders setup in an I formation
- Players play on 3 on 2 until scored or saved
- New groups of kids go out
- Note: Variation is to do a 3 man weave
- Note: Variation is to have a single line of players to the right side of each cage and the defensive players play offense with a single kid coming out from the right side.

John Hopkins 3v2 Challenge
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ivm2d55bOY8
Great competition drill that teaches soft hands on offense and quick ball movement.
- Have the kids split up with dark vs light
- Have each team run for 5 minutes in offense and defense and keep track of who wins
- Setup 5 cones around the goal, the cones are in a star pattern with the top of the star at the top of the goal about 10 yards away
- Have the defense on the back 2 cones behind the net
- Have the offense on the top 3 cones
- Place a goalie in the net and use tennis balls
- Coach throws a ball to an offensive player and it turns into a 3v2
- Defense has to adjust to the man and talk to stop the ball from going in the net
The losing team has to do extra pushups or sprints
