Who is on EMO
- Best decision makers
- Guys with great stick skills
- Guys who can catch a bad ball
- Quickness is more important than shot speed, but good shooters are a plus
- On man up we should be looking for guys that look for us to get better shots
General Tips
- Don't allow 1 defender to defender two guys
- Don't condense your space too early, creep up to shorten the space
- If the defender is on your hands, you are in to close
- Always look for the 2 offensive guys vs 1 defensive guy
- If you are on the perimeter and have alot of space, catch and throw in your strong hand
- Against a 5 man rotation defense, the crease guy is hugely important as a threat
- With a skip pass or pass down to GLE, make yourself a target, pop out a bit
- GLE guy opposite side of the ball, pinch into the crease and higher, ball side sink back to GLE
- When you are passing always look to the center when passing
- When moving the ball, touch the low corners to get the defense moving
- If defense is doing a center string or hotdog, bring your low guys slightly below GLE and your crease man down low, this makes the hotdog slide long, get it to the top to shoot
Drill: 7 Lines
- Start with 7 lines (4 offense,3 defense)
- 4v3 form the midline; spacing/quick decisions
- Find the 2v1 throw where the slide comes from
- Angle for strength to the ball
Drill: England Drill
- 2v1 build up to 6v5 off midline
- Start with a GB
- Make sure 1 defensive guy can't play 2
- Force D to move feet w ball movement
- Bigger numbers means less space
- Keep sending 1 defense and 1 offense with a ball, then turns into 3v2, 4v3, 5v4, 6v5
Drill: Knight Drill
- 3 v 2 / 4 v 3 Keep away (rondo) to 4 v 3 / 5 v 4
- Stickwork in tight space
- faking, skips, create lanes
- Start with a whistle with 3v2 in the soccer circle (keepaway like a rondo)
- 1 offense and 1 defense in the hole
- Blow another whistle when the ball goes away from the goal
- Turns into a 4v3
- Coach can start with a 4v3 and go into 5v4
Drill: 8 Lines
- 2v1 buildup to 6v5
- A variety of initiation points
- 8 lines around the field of offensive guys
- 1 long line of defenders
- Coach calls out a number and that line number on offense goes out plus 1 defender
- Keep going with 3v2-6v5
Drill: Sideways 3 v 2
- 3 lines of offense on each side of the field
- middle line of defense, with 2 out on the field
- Line down the middle of the goal, the 3 guys can't cross this line
- Ball goes to the other side after a shot with two new defenders (defender passes it in)
Drill: Reverse 7
- 4 lines of offense at the bottom
- 3 lines of defense at the top
- Roll the ball at the back, and start a 4 v 3
Drill: 5 v 4 knockout or 6 v 5 knockout
- 5 offense, 4 defense (6 offense, 5 defenders) - lined up on opposite sides of the field
- If offense scores they stay, and 4 new defense, they wait for the defense to get to center
- If defense stops them, then they stay with defense, and 5 new offensive guys come in
- Rotate if the offense doesn't score after 3 turns, or the defense doesn't stop after 3 turns
Drill: EMO Passing
- 3-3 with no defenders (60 passes in 60 seconds)
- In and out of the sticks quickly
- use 1 hand to save time, stick position & footwork
- Throw the ball hard, and practice catching them
- Guys should be in a shot ready position with their stick and hips/legs in a shooting stance
Drill: While waiting shooting
- Guys shoot on another goal
- Give them a target hip side low triangle shoot (not high shots)
Drill: Change Formation Practice
- Frequently change offensive sets to 3-3, 1-4-1, 2-3-1
