Time Drill
5 Min Active Stretching
10 Min Star Drill or 2 man passing down field
10 Min Alley Shooting on the Run
10 Min Types of Dodges to the Island
  • Justin Ward
  • Off-ball guys, create space, don't let 1 man cover 2, all 5 guys should put themselves in a passing lane
  • Boyle Rule: When you are looking at your defender, ask yourself the question am I faster or more athletic?
    • If you are, then go with 1 hard move with conviction
    • If you are not, then pick your spot to create leverage at the goal line or the apex of the back of the goal
  • Come Around - beat your guy around the cage
  • backhand - running to the crease stick to the inside and shoot backhand
  • Runaway - Seen as a bailout to a come around, hide the stick well and dodge up and away at GLE and shoot (must be practiced)
  • Inside Roll - use your bottom hand elbow to push the guy out, try to run to opposite pipe
  • Flat Roll - Like an inside roll but further out and roll at GLE then gain space inside
  • Rocker - Create the illusion that we want to roll where we came from, rock your head and shoulders to show the fake
  • Step Back - Fade away step away shot, use your man as a screen
  • Question Mark - Efficiency and timing, point your stick out change hands and shoot inside, time it on a check. 2 Step question mark: first step into your man, then out to the sideline and out and shoot
  • High Island - drive high, try to do a hockey stop (inside foot driving) and have space to come back and shoot

10 Min Footwork Approach Above GLE

https://www.hoganlax.com/approach-above-gle

  • Drill is useful on how to approach a man above GLE
  • Approach is when sliding or adjusting to your man getting the ball
  • We want to take away the inside of the field while approaching the man

Setup

  • Setup 2 cones at the top of the box at the start of the alley
  • Setup 2 cones about 10 feet in front of the crease with 10 feet in between
  • Have the defense, goalies, middies stand behind the goal
  • Have the players run to the first cone, stop then sprint to the cone at the top of the alley, and breakdown
  • Back should be turned towards the inside of the field, then sidestep out 45 degrees
  • Players should run both sides of the field

10 Min Squared Shooting & Slamball/med ball
10 Min 3 on 3 Midfield Lock On Drill

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jV9FYV_jXnc

A great drill to work on when your middies fail to get to the midline and ride against clearing middies. This teaches them to run back to the midline and then lock on their man, when a pass is made, the must get back to the hole and recover.

  • Put a goalie in the goal
  • The drill starts at the midfield line
  • The coach starts at the midline with the balls
  • The defense midfielders must stay with their man, while the offensive midfields look to get open for a pass from the coach
  • When the ball is passed the 3 offense guys run to the goal and the defensive guy runs to defend. The defensive guys must make sure they recover properly to the hole.
  • Keep score with a whiteboard
  • Flag motion 1-2 seconds straight then move towards the end lines
  • Maverick - middie cuts back to the end line and turn to the outside as its least likely to get doubled
  • Pinch - if the defensive player is running up the side, the middie clears through but staying onside (keeping the way clear)
  • Deep - the two middies run deep and the goalie tries to hit them

10 Min Rondo Drill to transition drill
  • Sacred Heart calls this the Loyola drill
  • Have goalie, 3 attack, 3 defense in goal
  • At the midline, send in 3 v 2 or 3 v 3 middies, pass the ball around in the middle with x consecutive passes, hit the coach with the ball, coach starts the transition into 6 v 5 or 6 v 6
